Best Dressed Celebrity in Handloom
Monday, August 22, 2016 3:42:33 AM America/Chicago
The Second National handloom Day, an original initiative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, saw a lot of support from across the country especially from the bollywood glitterati. The textile minister Smt. Smriti Irani initiated the textile ministry’s Hand loom appreciation drive #IWearHandloom under which a person should dress up in handloom garments & tweet their picture with this particular hash tag, while tagging five of their friends. It was similar to the renowned ice bucket challenge concept wise where instead of ice bucket people were supposed to wear Handloom products & tag people to carry on with the embracing handloom trend. It was initiated to popularize hand loom products amongst masses & encourage more usage. Though ALL of the entries were beautiful, there are some that stole the show. We have conjured up the list of such best dressed celebrities in Handloom just for you:
1. Konkona Sen Sharma
This Diva is famous for her distinct & classy sense of style, so it was no wonder that she was amongst the few who tweeted directly with the hash tag #IWearHandloom. Her navy blue saree with self print & golden border is an absolute classic.
2. Tisca Chopra
Dressed in cotton sarees or sarees with minimalistic work, is the image you get when you think of Tisca Chopra in Indian wear. The Tare Zameen Par actor is famously known to adorn such beautiful hand woven garments from the very beginning. She stole our hearts with a classic black saree with zigzag golden floral design border.
This Ace designer’s dressing oozes class & simplicity galore. Seeing him endorsing hand loom products was a sheer delight. The Nehru jacket worn over a kurta looked perfect.
4. Neha Dhupia
This Raw mango loyalist has been spotted wearing beautiful Hand loom Sarees, Lehengas, Salwar Kameez & what not. So her Dabangg style picture supporting handloom came as no surprise. The emerald green silk saree with a contrast red blouse looks surreal.
5. Kangana Ranaut
Kangana has always been touted as the fashion icon of Bollywood industry. Her sense of style is as classy as her idols (Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe). She rocked the handloom look in a plain checks & stripes off-white silk saree.
6. Aditi Rao Hyderi
The tinsel town’s fresh face supported handloom in an off-white saree with big rose motifs. Victorian yet traditional we say.
7. Smriti Irani
The Textile minister herself didn’t hold back in Hand loom day celebrations & tweeted with a neatly done blue colored silk saree with red border.
It is a wide spread belief amongst people that hand loom basically means cotton clothes with a grainy appeal & dull colors, what they fail to understand is that handloom just means a loom operated with hands instead of it being automated & any number of colors & patterns can be woven or printed on it. Textile Ministry through its well thought campaign was able to successfully carry out the initiative, and generate interest and curiosity amongst the audience. We urge everyone to appreciate the beauty each intricate weave consists in itself & Choose Handloom & Celebrate Handloom.
